We are delighted top announce that Don Castelow has agreed to come on Board the Committee, his position is....
Marketing and Promotions Manager.
Don has been instrumental in designing and purchasing our new memorabilia, 'Dog Tags' 'Button Badges' & 'Keyrings' plus promoting the Charity within the Coldstream Family and in Coldstream itself, leading to very generous donations, we thank Don very much and look forward to working with his idea's.

Coldstream Civic Week 'Sitrep'

Ladies / Gents, Over Civic weekend Alf (Vic) & Tina Newman, Phil Woods and myself had the intention of raising a few bob for the Guards Drums North and the Coldstream Kids Charity. But Phil who donated the Flat Screen TV and myself decided to give the majority of the monies raised to yourselves, only keeping 20 for the Drums north as a sum towards our admin to kick start our Blackpool performance and fund raiser for yourselves and us. Because we are the organizers / motivators for the reunion along with Paul Knox, Tony Dunn, wives and partners, of the forthcoming trip to Fallingbostel and Berlin next year. (Which you are all invited too) even though no invitation is required.

We would therefore like you to accept on behalf of the Guards Division Corps of Drums North the sum of 505.90 which will be transferred into your account today. As I have said recently I will be unable to complete all of the Glen Way but will help out in anyway I can during the week with admin and fundraising along with Paul Knox, but I plan to walk with you all on the last leg, probably with a bit of accompanying music for you.

You could also try and fit into your busy schedules a stop off at the BESOM public house in Coldstream either on the way up or back down, because as you will see from my sitrep below Dorothy is going to organize a FUNDRAISER event for YOU / US our charity next year.

COLDSTREM CIVIC WEEKEND 2009 SITREP

Upon arrival in Coldstream early Friday Evening, I stopped off at the Besom as you do for a quick replenish, where I met many a welcome face and smile. After a quick catchup it was off to James's hoose where after the arrival of Woody, Agnes laid on a fine evenings spread, while we did a bit more catching up with Tina & Vic Newman and the above too. After a few more sherbets back in toon, it was time to make our way to the Start Line for the Torchlight Parade through the town. Phil, Vic, Tina and myself bringing up the rear with head lamps on full beam whilst running through a few well known tunes. With visits to several motorhomes and drinking tents including the Sgts Mess run by Tommy (JOCK) HERMISTON and his wife during and after the well supported Firework Display. All too soon the taxi was ready to take us back to James's place.

Not a too early start on Saturday morning with birds singing and the smell of breakfast being prepared downstairs, but someone had to reluctantly volunteer to be last up so I took the opportunity to what was going to be a very long day indeed. By midday it was back in town and with permission from Dorothy and Wayne we had our items for sale, a bearskin for photographs and donation receptacle's out too, we also got the sale of raffle tickets under way.

The main raffle prize a (19 LCD FLAT SCREEN TV) donated by our own Phil Woods http://www.hoteldigitaltv.co.uk a big THANK YOU you are a star. The raffle was drawn by Peter from the Coldstream Pipe Band, and was won by Mrs M Booth from Whitby, North Yorkshire. Thank you to everyone who bought tickets.

The 2nd prize 2 bottles of home brew ale donated by Geoff Leavy and Anne Marie, was won by someone by the name of HOGG from Coldstream. The bottles are behind the bar in the BESOM awaiting your collection.

59 RAFFLE tickets sold raised a total of 290

Voluntary donations and the money raised from people having their photograph taken with a COLDSTREAM BEARSKIN on came to 74.30p

The sale of Coldstream Kids memorabilia ie; Dog Tags, Key Rings and Lapel Badges came to 161.60p

The total raised over the weekend came to 525.90p of which 505.90 has been donated to the Coldstream Kids charity which for those that dont know is; http://www.coldstreamkids.org.uk the remaining 20 will go to the Guards Drums North who's next performance and fund-raiser will be at Blackpool sooner than you think. Dorothy Lewins asked us to leave one of the Coldstream Kids collection containers on the BESOM bar and she also mentioned a fund-raising event which she would organise and hold in the future at t said drinking hole. Their email address is besompublichouse@aol.com

She also asked me for some Coldstream Kids memorabilia to have on display in the bar which they can sell for the charity, which I will organise once we have some containers made to display and hold such items.

I was also approached by Joanne Bryson who is on the Coldstream towns committee. She mentioned the idea of bringing children that the charity supports to Coldstream for future holidays. I will liaise with James Bell and have informed Franco of her suggestion.

Thank YOU everyone who bought Raffle tickets or items, made donations, came up with future ideas and further support for the Coldstream Kids Charity and requests for the Guards Drums North to perform.

Thank YOU also to the Town's British Legion for their invite and hospitality, the Pipe Band for their fine performances, Wayne & Dorothy, Vic and Tina who travelled from the Isle of Wight, James and Agnes for everything.

THANK YOU to everyone for your support which made the whole weekend worthwhile, as one we are stronger but above all else we are SECOND TO NONE.

On a very sad note Steve Atkin phoned me on Friday lunch time to say he would be unable to attend the planned weekend as his father who had been very ill for sometime had taken a turn for the worse. Steve phoned me again on Sunday afternoon with the sad news that his father had passed away on Saturday. Our thoughts are with Steve & Sue, Rhona & Stephen, family and friends.

Afghan Death

Gentlemen, Comms just received from RHQ, the young 20 yrs old Gdsn. Coldstreamer from Devon, attached to the Welsh Guards, he lost his life in a IED explosion. RHQ request as many as possible to attend his repatriation at Wooton Basset on Thursday. Comms read........ "You may already know but I am writing to confirm that early this morning (22 July) Gdsm Christopher King, 1st Bn Coldstream Guards was killed by an IED whilst on patrol in Afghanistan. He was attached to 1st Bn Welsh Guards. Gdsm King was aged 20 years old and came from Devon. His body will be repatriated on Tuesday 28th July and the Regimental Lieutenant Colonel hopes that those members of the Association who can, will turn out at Wooton Bassett as the cortege passes through the town. " We send our deepest condolenses to his family and mourn his loss. Macboro

The Great Glen Walk or Crawl?

Hi All,

Just back from a full walking Recce for the charity walk in Sept.

Franco's idea is to create a temp walk web site which I will update each day with pictures and info of the walk as we go along.

I hope to have this temp site up and running for at least a few weeks before we start the walk. This site will have lots of good pictures of what we shall see as we walk along and extra pictures/info added to it during the walk.
Details of the web address will be posted here and on the main charity web site etc.

This is going to be one very special walk for all those coming along as each day we travel through some stunning landscape.
If your going to collapse in total agony and plead not to have to walk another foot, well you could not pick a better walk to do it on, as this ones rather special!

Just get in touch if you want any info on the walk.

Gentlemen,
              Comms from RHQ.
We are saddened to report the death of 23969525 David Mills.
Former 2nd. Bt. Mortar's
   Dave passed away on March the 25th after a long battle with
a pancreatic disease.
The funeral will take place at 03.45 pm on April 8th at
East Hampstead Crematorium Bracknell.... No Flowers...
Donation in lieu to the Reading and Oxford CG Assoc. or
John Radcliffe Surgical Ward, Oxford.

                     RIP Brave Coldstreamer.

Very Special Catterick Pass-out

Gentlemen,
             Our Hon. Sec Manny Cook arranged for members of the Branch to visit Catterick on Friday the 28th Nov. The last Pass-out in 2008
It was quite a special day, the first time two Squads of Trainee Gdsn. had passed out on the same day and the first time they had passed out in Greatcoat Order.
This event not only attracted over 400 members of their family's but a great number of senior Brigade members, including Col. Foot Guards, The Brigade Major and The GSM Bill Mott.
   We had a brilliant day in excellent company, a day that made you proud to be a Coldstreamer. Plus a day when our Sec. was honoured with a presentation by the Brigade Major, for attending every Pass-out during the last three years. The link to the report is here.

We are delighted to report that 25 Coldstreamers took part in our first monthly Quiz.

Because internet search can be conflicting, we decided we would use the answers supplied by British Libraries.

We were prepared to have a draw to find a winner from multiple correct entries,

In-fact there was only one correct competitor.

Gentlemen,
                Over the many years the site has been operating, we have amassed a huge number of Photo's that we have not been able to publish and do not know the source or subject.
We are now hoping to solve that by putting regular updates on the 'Photoboard'
    We ask your help in filling in the details, as the heading says W.W.W.

We can then add these Pics to the history of our Regiment.
